The Community Climate Action Programme is a new programme which aims to support and empower communities to take climate action at a local level. Wicklow County Council, in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications will support communities to promote and assist in the scale up of community climate action.

Through the Community Climate Action Programme, as supported by the Climate Action Fund, Wicklow County Council will award grants from a total funding pot of €646,000 to community organisations to support citizens to step up local climate action.

Projects must deliver a direct positive impact on climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing production or use of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and/or increasing climate resilience and helping communities adapt to the consequences of climate change.

Projects should address at least one, preferably several, or the following five themes:

• Home and energy.
• Travel
• Food and waste.
• Shopping and recycling.
• Local climate and environmental action.
